Health classes explained
Preferred Plus through Standard classes—what they mean and what shifts you between levels.
Underwriters sort term by classification, terminology differs but ranks stay consistent: Preferred Plus (also Elite or Super Preferred), Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard, then extra charges for elevated hazard. Cigarette customers occupy a distinct tier with surcharges.
What underwriters look at
Frame (weight and height), lipid and pressure readings, relatives with heart or cancer illness before 60, driving record, medicine history, work environment and pastimes, and cigarette or nicotine use. Top class demands solid results nearly everywhere; Preferred permits variation; Standard Plus and Standard cover managed ailments including managed blood pressure.
How to use the quote tool
Assess yourself honestly: Excellent points to Preferred Plus, Very good to Preferred, Good to Standard Plus and Average to Standard. Your quotes reflect that level; underwriting locks in your final classification. In doubt? Fetch quotes at both tiers and observe the spread, then let your application settle it. Picking optimistically won't cut fees—just weakens estimate accuracy.
